About the Course

This course offers a complete introduction to the Unix/Linux family of operating systems, preparing the student to manipulate text files, configure defaults, use the common tools and combine them with the "pipes and filters" mechanism that made Unix famous. Everything in the course is applicable to any modern Unix or Linux system. There is a brief introduction to system administration, but that topic varies greatly across Unix families and Linux distributions so that more specialized training is needed.

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

This is a beginner's course in Unix/Linux. Experience with computers is required; preferably some exposure to command-line work (Unix/Linux terminal, MS-DOS "command.com", Windows 10 PowerShell, etc).
